Gabriel S. Gaytan, El Paso, Texas, artist, created this special representation of Saint Catherine of Siena (Santa Catalina) for our Center. It shows the beautiful Mexican fabrics, and the women’s artistic sewing, while integrating their prayer which is at the heart of this Juarez, Mexico, cooperative community.

St. Catherine is the cooperative’s patroness, born in 1347 in Siena, Italy. She had no formal education; however, Catherine dictated many letters and spiritual writings, as she became an adviser to Church and State leaders. In 1970 she was named a Doctor of the Catholic Church. Catherine is also known for her love and care of the sick and elderly.
